new york city cops

so...i feel as though its been three and a half years since i've been able to write...and let me tell you its driving me crazy. i cannot wait until i get a working computer again. my gender and women's studies class is giving me some insightful topics to contemplate and i'm oh-so-glad for that.

one article we've read has particularly caught my fancy and i'd like to include it in my eventual declaration of self, ie...the manifesto i will one day write. yes, i made a list of things i want to accomplish in my life and i'll post it once i remember to bring the list with me...damn broken computer stressing out my life. anyways! here are some quotes i'd like to share from this article (the name of i'll have to add latere because i didnt bring it with me of course...dddaaaammmmnnn it):

"our upbringing as women has told us we should come second to our relationships and responsibilities with others. responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect your own brains and instincts; hence grappling with hard work. it means that you do not treat your body as a commodity with which to purchase superficial intimacy or economic security, for your bodies and minds are inseparable in this life, and as objects, our minds are in mortal danger. it means insisting that those to whom you give your friendship and love are able to respect your mind. being able to say as charlotte bronte's jane eyre, 'i have an inward treasure born with me, which can keep me alive if all extraneous delights should be withheld or offered at a price i cannot afford to give.' it means you refuse to sell your talents and aspirations short, simply to avoid conflict or confrontation."

and one other thing i really enjoyed from that class:
"without community there is no liberation."

enjoy your day.

sweeter dreams.
k
