may 1, 1886 was the day chosen by the united states and canada to make the 8 hour workday the standard. this day is set aside to commemorate the political, social, and economic advancements of the international labor union.
unfortunately, the united states likes to distance the working class from the radical left and itself from this day so it has set aside a different day for these purposes known as labor day. however, some local unions unofficially celebrate this day. it is much more prominent in europe, india, and the nordic countries.
the day is used by communists, socialists, and anarchists to perform demonstrations, street marches, and rallies.
so...haPpY maY dAy!
