i am quite annoyed that the students in my comm 264 class don't appreciate the class we are taking. yes, the three hours on monday nights can cause a little bit of impatience, but we are being taught by a renowned professor and i think some appreciation is due. not only that, but the students in my discussion section don't bother to read the chapter assignments necessary for a decent class discussion. this removes the point of having the discussion section. luckily, we have begun to have quizzes over the reading.
i thought we were in college and people were supposed to be a least a little more intellectually inclined. i don't speak for everyone, however, the students i have come into contact with generally do not give a damn about their education. where is the desire to learn more?? ignorance can never be bliss. at least not when it comes to the education we are able to receive here, however, this is only in my opinion. what do i know??

I'm stunned over how so many people (often white middle class kids from the burbs) treat college as an entitlement they don't have to put forth any effort toward. "Just give me my degree so I can get a job...and who cares if I can read, think, write, or speak in an articulate manner about anything of substance..." The broader social implications are disheartening. So many people go away to school because they don't know what the hell to do with themselves. This even happens at second tier schools like the U of I where you would think it would be far from common.
That said, I'm so thankful I had people like you (and your brother), Nora, Dustin, and others in my classes at NBHS. Part of the reason why I left is that I felt like I was dying an intellectual death of sorts - and most people couldn't care less. It might sound overdramatic, but it's true.
Lastly, your opinion matters.
